This study systematically analyzed the design factors of smart cities based on the intersection structure of space size (micro/macro) and space type (public/private). In the micro-public domain, the delay minimization of the safety and alarm system and the accuracy of information were important, and in the micro-private domain, the sophistication of the user experience such as indoor location accuracy and visualization and operability was derived as key criteria. At the macro level, shape and environmental indicators such as time-based accessibility, walking connectivity, and SVF were identified as important factors determining urban performance.
As a result of the theoretical analysis, it was revealed that the structural consistency of smart space services is secured when space units, standards, user experiences, and governance elements are combined. In particular, semantic three-dimensional models such as CityGML 3.0, ADE, and Dynamizer functioned as a common language mediating transition between micro and macro-scale. As a policy, it is proposed to establish a system for regularly calculating and disclosing accessibility and SVF, to introduce an interoperational architecture based on spatial information standards, and to operate a micro-unit UX checklist.
In the future, extended research that reflects urban pilot demonstration and regional data and institutional conditions is needed, and through these follow-up studies, smart city design by space unit can lead to structural innovation in actual city operation.
