국토의 효율적 이용을 위한 묘지제도의 문제점과 개선방향을 연구했다.

World population today is being doubled every thirty five years. Seventy million people add themselves each year to the number of world population, causing snow-ball effect to make the number swollen to be five billion at the moment. Thus not only the dwelling place of the living is at issue, but the resting place of the dead as well. In this context, this study intends to verify and identify the problems concerned with burial system of korea in the light of efficient management of land. For this purpose, this study made a panoramic sketch of Korean tradition regarding burial custom and way of thinking.

And this tradition can be said to have been influenced by Buddhistic, Confucian, and geomancy's influences. And the influence of ancestor veneration together with blessing upon their off-spring were the major factor. Present burial system, in this regard, consumes big portion of land lot in the plain as well as hill-side with less than thirty degree of inclination. More than ninety percent out of seventeen million tombs in the country belong to this portion. As a matter of fact, burial system in Korea should be reconsidered and changed, in terms of legal, tax, administration, and mentality, to give way to efficient use of land.
